The Expansion of Capital Markets

February - 18 - 2011 Author: Samantha Davis Respond

Worried about your stocks? Blame it on Wall Street.
Investors today face a barrage of conflicting information and exaggerated return claims from what most people consider the “market” -; the S&P 500 or the Dow Jones Industrial Average. But these indexes only comprise about 12 percent of all U.S. stocks. The reality is that these stocks can’t be predicted with any consistency, especially long-term.

In the complicated world of financial services, you’re being misled.

Wall Street advisors employ a strategy of “active marketing,” which is the continual development of new products designed and marketed as the latest and greatest solution to investors’ fears and concerns. There is an addiction factor at work here; active marketing feeds our desire to roll the dice. This rolling of the dice takes the form of stock picking, market timing and return chasing, activities otherwise known as active management.

The alternative is to “super-diversify” your portfolio with a wide array of unrelated investment choices and assets. This strategy all

BullChicks expands number of Corpus Christi locations

February - 16 - 2011 Author: Zachary Sanchez Respond

— Riaz Samji came to the U.S. in 1996 and started flipping burgers to make a living. Fifteen years later, he’s watching his dream of creating a franchise become a reality.

BullChicks — a restaurant offering burgers, wraps, salads and wings — opened its second location in December, has two in the works and expects to open 15 to 20 corporate-owned stores by year’s end, said Frank Perrin, the company’s director of franchise operations. That’s not counting any franchises that also might open this year, he added. Not bad for a guy who created his own recipes inside an old Taco Bell building on Alameda Street.

Samji, a native of the eastern African country of Tanzania, always has been fascinating with cooking. He remembers being about 5 years old and watching his father hunt only with two bullets in his rifle.

“That’s all he could spare, so he learned to be a good shot,” the 46-year-old said. “When

Labor dispute at The Westin Providence appears to be headed toward conclusion

February - 16 - 2011 Author: Zachary Sanchez Respond

PROVIDENCE – The long-running dispute between workers at The Westin Providence and the hotel’s management group may end Tuesday.

Members from the union Unite Here! Local 217 are voting Tuesday on an contract with The Procaccianti Group, which operates the hotel. The union said it planned to release the results of the vote and details of the contract during a news conference scheduled for Tuesday evening.

The union committee has unanimously recommended approval of the agreement, said Francis Engler, a union organizer working with Local 217.

The union and The Procaccianti Group have been locked in a bitter battle since the union’s contract ended in October 2009. Tempers further flared when The Procaccianti Group unilaterally raised health insurance costs for employees and subcontracted out some operations, a move which eliminated some of its members’ jobs, the union alleged.

Local 217 launched vocal protests, including picket lines outside the downtown hotel, and encouraged event organizers to boycott the hotel.

The U.S. government has legislated the Roth IRA since 1998 and now it is more available for average American. Using some specific conditions, you do not need to pay taxes. A person can participate in this plan during the period of employment, and when retirement time comes, he can distribute his money after some period of tax break. The main concern here is that the number of differences between roth ira and ira.

Unlike regular IRA, contributions to Roth IRAs are not tax deductible, even if distributions are tax free. An advantage over traditional IRA Roth IRA, however, is that there are many fewer limitations and requirements on distributions. In addition, all transactions in a Roth IRA account, including capital gains, dividends and interest are not subject to tax obligations.
