Snake Safety Training

July - 15 - 2011 Author: Elizabeth Moore Respond

A Pennsylvania couple has started a business to supplement companys safety trainings with rattlesnake specific information:

Bob Zumstein has been lecturing on timber rattlesnakes for years and recently had been invited to talk to two Marcellus Shale companies about where workers might encounter these venomous suckers and what they should do if they spot one.

This gave Lisa Olszak, Zumstein’s wife, an idea for a business.

Olszak owns a management consulting business in Pittsburgh, where she spends her weekdays while traveling back to the couple’s home in Bradford on weekends — driving along the footprint of the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania. With her business wheels always spinning, she said, Olszak saw a timber rattlesnake-shaped hole in companies’ safety trainings that she would like to fill.

A Bad Day for Real Estate?

July - 14 - 2011 Author: Samantha Davis Respond

One of the ways the federal government tried to “rescue” housing was to raise the Conforming Loan Limits – which is the maximum loan that can be sold to FannieMae, FreddieMac and GinnieMae (FHA loans).

By raising loan limits, liquidity was provided to mortgage lenders enabling them to lend at competitive rates in most neighborhoods in America. That was a good thing.

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. The government intervention had an expiration date-September 30, 2011. Today, we see the government trying to back off their propping up of the real estate industry. Reducing loan limits appears imminent. And THAT is a bad thing.

How Come?

Home Prices will fall. Jumbo loans (those in excess of the Conforming Loan Limit) are more expensive. Remember that home buyers buy on monthly COST. Higher rates on the “new jumbo” loans will force a correction (i.e. lowerin

Many of lifes events are cause for inspiration. For Jay Feinberg, it was his battle with cancer, reports Reuters.

It has been 20 years since he battled leukemia and won, but that hasnt stopped him from pushing forward to help other with the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation.

Feinberg abandoned plans to become a lawyer and devoted himself fulltime to running Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation, his nonprofit venture now based in Boca Raton, Florida. It has nearly 188,000 donors and has helped more than 2,300 patients receive bone marrow and stem cell transplants.

We had built such a tremendous force here with thousands and thousands of volunteers and subject-matter expertise, said Feinberg, whose mission began after his doctor told him that his chances for a donor match were slim and he should start compiling a bucket list. We really put a lot of time into figuring out how to run these (donor) drives strategically.

Everyone Is Getting In On The Party

July - 13 - 2011 Author: Elizabeth Moore Respond

House parties touting direct sales products like makeup or Tupperware have been around for a long time. The success of the house party is well-known, and it is quickly growing into a marketing tool for all. With the help of one company, many popular brands are adopting the trend for their own needs.

House Party helps companies reach customers by giving out party kits to various people. Mostly at-home moms, they apply for a chance to throw a party in their own home, and sample a new product before it hits the market. According to Chicago Tribune, in the recent roll out of a Velveeta party kit, nearly 5,000 people decided it was time to celebrate Cheesy Skillets. They are not the only company bringing people together to promote their products. You may also recognize Playstation or Norton. They are both brands that are ready to start a party in your home.

House Party, founded in 2005, has built a database of more than 1 million would-be hosts, mostly 30-something moms, who eagerly compete to throw parties.
