Visitors bureau offers incentives for residents to help bring conventions to Corpus Christi
CORPUS CHRISTI A trip to Veracruz, Mexico, a kayak and lessons, and dinner for four at the Republic of Texas are among the prizes up for grabs to those who help bring more conventions to Corpus Christi.
Officials with the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau kicked off a new initiative Friday, Most Valuable Partner (MVP), aimed at booking more conventions. Conventions/conferences and sporting events make a substantial impact on the area’s economy. An estimated 7.2 million visitors spend more than a billion dollars with local businesses each year and almost 13,000 local jobs are directly related to tourism, according to the bureau.
A visitor who stays one night in a hotel brings a minimum of $143 to the area. Multiply that by 3,000 people staying three days and Corpus Christi gets a $1.28 million boost.
“We’re appealing to people’s civic pride,” said Keith Arnold, the bureau’s president and CEO.
